Summary of Accomplishments in the year 2001
Awarded its PRIZE for women's creativity in rural life to 31 laureates around the world. The winners were selected from close to 200 candidates and six of them were invited to attend an award ceremony at the United Nations in Geneva on 15 October 2001. All Laureates received a donation of US$ 500 as an empowerment for their creativity and commitment in improving life in rural communities.
Organized for the 5th year the World Rural Women's Day on 15 October, and disseminated around the world 17,000 posters and 'Open Letters to rural women of the world' in 5 languages. More than 70 reports of local activities reached our office.
Sponsored three prevention and rehabilitation organizations with proceeds from the World Fund for the Dignity of Children (US$ 3000).
Organized the 2nd year of the World Day for Prevention of Child Abuse - 19 November, and created a worldwide NGO coalition to mark the World Day with appropriate activities and events. 149 NGOs joined and 18,000 posters and Open Letters were sent around the world. A manifestation was organized in front of the United Nations, followed by a press conference and an evening program at the Temple de Fusterie. The Government and President of the Republic of Costa Rica and the Minister of Culture declared the World Day a National Day. More than 70 NGOs sent reports of local and national activities.
Published its Global Newsletter "Empowering women and children" edition No 10. 20,000 copies were printed free of charge by Edipresse S.A. for distribution worldwide.
Created the "Walk your Talk" campaign to be officially announced during UNGASS on Children with the purpose to hold political world leaders accountable to the promises they make to children, and annually award a Head of State with an Honorary "Walk your Talk" prize.
Launched together with other NGOs "The Millionth Circle 2005" initiative to train individuals to create a million community circles for the purpose of transforming hierarchical structures and systems and build sustainable life styles as well as creating circles of compassion.
Co-produced a Circle Calendar 2002 with instructions on how to build circles.
Participated at numerous NGO working group meetings, conferences, seminars, and round tables at the United Nations.
Organized fundraising activities and meetings to raise the needed funds for WWSF programs.
